Don’t Act Fat

It’s not what you think.

Fat is an adjective meaning “having excess flesh.” It’s something you HAVE, not something you ARE. Society tells us the word FAT is synonymous with being unattractive, lazy, having low self-esteem, and being insecure.

Acting fat means you’ve given into society’s definition.

Acting fat means shrinking yourself when you enter a room. Acting fat means avoiding speaking up because the world has told you your voice doesn’t matter because of your size. Acting fat means wearing a towel until you’re at the very edge of the pool because every body is a swimsuit body…except yours. Acting fat means leaving the crop tops for the girls who can “pull it off.”

It means you aren’t loving yourself. It means you’ve left your confidence at home. Acting fat has nothing to do with the number on the scale.

So here we are, digging into a little phrase that has guided me through life’s crazy journey. One that has taught me to make space for myself, speak up, love myself, foster fearless relationships and to always BE ME. One that has helped me take back my most feared F word. No matter what you see in the mirror, the number on the scale, or the size of your clothes…DON’T ACT FAT.
